Obverse description The complete coat of arms of Liberia occupies the central field, depicting a three-masted sailing ship at sea beside a palm tree, a dove in flight above, a rising sun on the horizon, and a plough and spade crossed in the lower portion of the shield, all surmounted by a scroll bearing the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE. The date 1995 flanks the shield at lower left and right, with the small Pobjoy Mint mark (PM) at lower left. The outer legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper periphery, while the inscription HALF OUNCE 250 DOLLARS FINE GOLD curves along the lower border, separated by scrollwork banners reading REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA.
