Beschrijving keerzijde Facing bust of Saint Agnes of Bohemia (Svatá Anežka Česká), depicted as a crowned abbess wearing a nun's veil and habit, a pectoral cross at her throat, and raising her right hand in blessing. Flanking her head are two stylized lily blossoms symbolizing her purity and royal lineage. The engraver's monogram JB appears to the right of the figure. The circular legend along the lower field reads 40 DUKÁT 1211 · 1282 SVATÉ ANEŽKY, referencing the coin's weight denomination and the saint's birth and death years.

Aanvullende informatie

The "40 Ducat" format revives a denomination struck most famously by the Habsburg mints in the 17th and 18th centuries — large presentation pieces intended not for circulation but as diplomatic gifts and royal gratuities. The originals were typically multiples of the standard ducat weight, produced in limited numbers for court use and rarely handled by anyone outside the nobility.

St. Agnes of Rome was martyred around 304 AD under Diocletian's persecutions. At 139.5 grams of .9999 fine gold, this Niue issue is a bullion-adjacent collectible trading on that historical format rather than any genuine Niuean monetary tradition.
