| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse features an allegorical female figure in flowing classical robes striding dynamically to the left, her right arm raised aloft holding a radiant sunburst disc, evoking themes of enlightenment and progress. A ring of raised stars frames the upper right portion of the field along the inner border, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished background. To the lower right, an inset circular cartouche displays the Public Seal of Niue, bearing the legend PUBLIC SEAL OF NIUE and the motto ATUA NIUE TUKULAGI. The denomination 250 DOLLARS appears in bold relief to the left of the central figure, with the date 2023 at the lower field, and the inscriptions 1 TROY OZ. and .9999 GOLD positioned along the left border. The engraver's initials JI are visible in the lower central field. |

Edison's relationship with gold was more commercial than symbolic — his Pearl Street Station, opened in 1882, was financed partly through J.P. Morgan's backing and was specifically designed to undercut gas lighting companies that had made Morgan wealthy. The irony was deliberate. Niue's licensing arrangements with coin program operators have made the island one of the most prolific third-party commemorative issuers in the world, a revenue model entirely disconnected from any historical tie to the subject honored.
