The Super Incuse Maple Leaf series began in 2022 as the Royal Canadian Mint's centennial celebration of the original 1922 Silver Maple Leaf program — except that framing is itself a stretch, since the iconic bullion Maple Leaf didn't launch until 1988. The "super incuse" treatment, driving the design deeply into the field rather than raising it above, is a deliberate technical flex: achieving uniform depth across a 1-kilogram planchet without distortion requires striking pressures and die geometry well outside standard bullion production parameters.
This 2024 iteration is the first of the series to carry the effigy of Charles III following the death of Elizabeth II in September 2022.
