Additional information

Issued to mark the tenth anniversary of Belizean independence, which was achieved on 21 September 1981 after nearly two centuries as British Honduras. The transition was not without friction — Guatemala had long claimed the territory in full, and a British garrison remained in Belize for years after independence as a direct deterrent to potential invasion.

KM#105 was struck in a limited proof issue and saw no circulation. The .917 fineness follows the traditional crown gold standard rather than the finer .999 now common in bullion coinage.
