Reverse description A diademed draped bust of Princess Anne is rendered in high relief at center, facing half-left, wearing a floral tiara and a decorative garment with an emblem at the shoulder. The surrounding legend arcs in multiple lines around the upper and lateral periphery, referencing the 250th Anniversary of the Parliament of the Bahamas and the Princess Anne Commemorative Visit. Additional information

The Bahamian parliament being commemorated here is the House of Assembly, which dates its founding to 1729 — one of the oldest legislative bodies in the Western Hemisphere. Independence from Britain came in 1973, meaning this coin was struck just six years into Bahamian sovereignty, at a moment when the new government was actively constructing a national narrative around institutions that predated independence by two and a half centuries.

KM#83 is part of a broader 1979 Bahamian gold proof set. Mintages for these issues were low, targeted almost entirely at the collector market rather than circulation.
