Obverse description The complete Arms of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas occupy the central field, featuring a quartered shield depicting a British ship in full sail above a rising sun, supported on the dexter by a marlin and on the sinister by a flamingo, both standing on a grassy compartment. Above the shield rises a crest consisting of a conch shell atop a helmet with mantling, and below appears a scroll bearing the national motto. A beaded inner border frames the design, with the legend arcing around the upper periphery and the date 1979 placed in the lower field.
