| Obverse description | A tribute composition featuring all four official effigies of Queen Elizabeth II as they appeared on Canadian coinage from 1953 onward, each portrait facing right and arranged in sequence to represent the successive decades of her reign. The effigies progress from the youthful laureate bust by Mary Gillick (1953) through the diademed portraits by Arnold Machin (1965) and Dora de Pédery-Hunt (1990) to the mature effigy by Susanna Blunt (2003). A Tudor rose device separates the regnal years in the field. The outer legend reads ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA with the dates 1952 and 2022 flanking the rose, commemorating her Platinum Jubilee. |

| Reverse description | The Royal Cypher of Queen Elizabeth II — comprising the interlaced letters E II R — is centrally placed in the field, rendered in fine relief. Surrounding the cypher is an elaborate artistic representation of the Imperial State Crown as viewed from above, with its characteristic arches, cross pattée, and jewelled bands depicted in exquisite detail. Eight faceted sapphires and eight faceted emeralds are inlaid alternately around the circumference of the coin, while four diamonds are set symmetrically around the central cypher. The legend 250 DOLLARS CANADA appears within the design, completing the reverse composition. |
