Arabic legends flank the portrait on both sides, with the royal name and title inscribed in flowing Arabic calligraphy to the right and left of the bust. Reverse description Central field features the large numeral '9' denoting the ninth anniversary of enthronement, flanked by two laurel branches forming a wreath below the Moroccan royal coat of arms at the top. The denomination '250' appears beneath the numeral '9', with the Arabic inscription 'مائتان وخمسون درهماً' below. A bilingual circular legend surrounds the design: Arabic text reading 'الذكرى التاسعة لتربع جلالة الملك على العرش' in the upper arc, and the French legend '9ème ANNIVERSAIRE DE L'INTRONISATION DE S. M. LE ROI MOHAMMED VI' along the lower periphery. The design is framed by a rope-pattern border at the rim.

Additional information

Struck to mark the ninth anniversary of Mohammed VI's accession following the death of Hassan II in July 1999, this issue falls into a pattern Bank Al-Maghrib established of commemorating the king's reign in five-year increments — making the ninth-year choice somewhat irregular and worth noting. Mohammed VI moved quickly after accession to dissolve the notorious Derb Moulay Cherif detention facility and release political prisoners, reforms that reshaped Morocco's early 2000s international standing.
