Mohammed VI acceded to the throne on July 23, 1999, following the death of his father Hassan II, who had ruled Morocco for 38 years. The 25th regnal anniversary — a silver jubilee — prompted this commemorative issue, one in a series Bank Al-Maghrib has struck at regular intervals to mark the reign. The .925 silver standard and 28.28g specification align with the international crown-sized format widely used by the Royal Mint and others for sovereign commemoratives, suggesting production may have involved a contracted overseas facility.
