| Reverse description | Central raised design depicts the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the Alanian Eparchy Monastery, a medieval stone structure dating to the 13th century, shown in three-quarter perspective atop a rocky promontory with a separate bell tower at left bearing a cross finial. Above the church, in the upper field, appears a colored icon of the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child, haloed, rendered in a Byzantine iconographic style. The surrounding blackened field carries Cyrillic and Ossetian inscriptions in stylized ecclesiastical lettering, with Chi-Rho monograms flanking the lateral field. The date of the church's construction, 'XIII ÆН.' (13th century), appears to the right of the icon. |
