Reverse description The reverse depicts a scene of the ancient Chinese chain pump (龙骨车, Dragon Bone Water Pump), a significant invention of the 1st century AD. Two robed figures are shown operating the treadle-powered chain pump mechanism mounted on a timber frame over a rocky waterway, with the chain and paddle assembly descending into the water below. In the upper field, two additional figures tend to an ox on elevated ground. A spoked wheel diagram appears to the right of the main scene, illustrating the mechanical principle. The Chinese inscription 龙骨车 公元一世纪 (Dragon Bone Pump, 1st Century AD) appears to the right in the field, and the denomination 25元 is inscribed at the lower left.
