The "Yeni" (New) designation on Turkish lira coinage was itself short-lived — introduced in 2005 as part of a redenomination that dropped six zeros from the old lira, it was dropped again in 2009 when the currency reverted simply to "Lira." This 2008 piece therefore carries a label that was obsolete within a year of striking.
The Libra series from Darphane targets the collector bullion market, with 15.55g chosen to align with the troy half-ounce convention.
