| Beschrijving voorzijde | Facing effigy of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder and first President of the Turkish Republic, rendered as a formal bust with suit and tie, centrally positioned within a raised circular border. The portrait is executed in moderate relief with fine detailing of the facial features and hair. The circular legend TÜRKİYE CUMHURİYETİ (Republic of Turkey) runs around the periphery of the coin, outside the inner circle, in Latin script. |

Above the numeral, the Turkish national symbol of a crescent moon and five-pointed star is prominently displayed. Below the numeral, the denomination legend YENİ KURUŞ appears in two lines, with the word 'YENİ' (New) in smaller lettering above 'KURUŞ' in larger capitals. The mint year appears at the base of the design in the exergue area. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
This coin exists entirely because of a monetary crisis Turkey spent years trying to escape. The 2005 redenomination — which introduced the Yeni (New) Türk Lirası — lopped six zeros off a currency that had depreciated so catastrophically that a single U.S. dollar had fetched over 1.3 million lira by 2001. The "Yeni" prefix was itself a scheduled concession: the government committed from the outset to dropping it after a transitional period, which is precisely why "Yeni Kuruş" types span only 2005–2008 before reverting to plain "Kuruş."
