Binéfar is a small agricultural town in the Huesca province of Aragon, and during the early months of the Spanish Civil War it fell squarely within the anarchist collectivization movement that swept the region after July 1936. The CNT-FAI worker collectives across Aragon frequently issued their own local scrip when the Republican monetary supply became unreliable or simply absent — these notes functioned within the collective economy, often redeemable only at collective-run stores or for collective-issued wages.
