Beschrijving keerzijde Draped bust of Minerva facing left, wearing a crested Corinthian helmet with cheek guards and an aegis adorned with a gorgoneion at the truncation. The rendering is bold and somewhat stylised, consistent with provincial North African workshop production. A Phoenician legend appears in the left field identifying the city of Oea. The design is contained within a beaded border.

Aanvullende informatie

Oea — modern Tripoli — was one of three Phoenician settlements that gave the region Tripolitania its name, and this bronze reflects the city's stubborn retention of Neo-Punic script well into the Roman imperial period. Most civic bronzes from Africa Proconsularis had fully abandoned indigenous epigraphy by the Augustan era; Oea held on, making issues with Punic legends genuinely unusual for the Tiberian period.

The MAA reference places this within Müller's foundational corpus of African municipal coinage, a classification system that still anchors specialist work on the series.
