Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse features a centrally placed circular colored insert depicting a sunbird perched on a bare branch against a yellow-green naturalistic background, rendered in full polychrome color with iridescent detailing. The bird is shown in profile facing left, displaying dark plumage with a metallic green head and white underparts, characteristic of an East African sunbird species. The circumferential legend WILDLIFE OF SOMALIA & EAST AFRICA arcs around the upper and lateral periphery in raised Latin capitals, with the date 1998 inscribed at the base between two raised dots. A beaded border frames the entire reverse design.

Aanvullende informatie

Somalia's mid-1990s wildlife coin program was issued during a period when the central government had effectively ceased to function — the state collapsed in 1991 and would not reconstitute in any meaningful form for over a decade. These pieces were produced under contract by foreign mints and authorized by the Somali National Bank in name only, with no functioning domestic monetary infrastructure behind them.

KM#61 belongs to a series clearly aimed at the collector market rather than circulation.
