Somalia's currency authority issued a run of themed commemorative copper-nickel pieces around 2001 under licensing arrangements that had little to do with Somali monetary policy — the country had no functioning central government at the time, and the "Central Bank of Somalia" issuing these coins existed largely on paper. Mozart's 1756 birth in Salzburg and the 250th-anniversary marketing cycle made him a recurring subject across exactly this category of world coin issue.
