Somalia's 2001 coinage was issued during a period when the country had no functioning central government — the Transitional National Government had only been established that same year and controlled virtually no territory. These pieces were produced for the international collector market rather than domestic circulation, contracted through foreign minting intermediaries while Mogadishu remained divided among clan militias.
KM# 105 is part of a sprawling series of Somali collector issues from this era spanning sports, wildlife, and pop culture — none of which saw meaningful use as currency.
