Puntland, a semi-autonomous region of Somalia that declared its own administration in 1998, has no internationally recognized currency authority and no functioning mint — which makes any coinage issued under its name a novelty product sold directly into the collector market rather than anything that ever approached circulation. These pieces are produced by private minting firms on contract, typically marketed through European distributors.
The fishing cat itself is native to South and Southeast Asia, not the Horn of Africa.
