| Beschrijving voorzijde | The national arms of the Somali Democratic Republic displayed centrally in the field, consisting of a quartered shield bearing horizontal stripes and a five-pointed star, supported on either side by leopards rampant, with a scroll and crossed palm fronds at the base. The Latin legend JAMHURIYADDA DIMOQRAADIGA SOOMAALIYA arcs along the upper periphery, while the Arabic inscription جمهورية الصومال الديمقراطية curves along the lower periphery. The design is struck in proof-like finish with deeply mirrored fields contrasting with frosted relief elements. |

The FAO coin program, launched in 1968, commissioned member nations to issue coins bearing agricultural themes as part of a broader push to publicize the Food and Agriculture Organization's campaigns against world hunger. Somalia participated intermittently. The piedfort format — struck on a planchet roughly twice the standard thickness — was favored for collector issues of this period, particularly from smaller issuing nations whose regular circulation strikes had little market appeal on their own.
KM#P3 is sparsely documented, with mintage figures unconfirmed in standard references.
