Somalia's elephant bullion series occupies an unusual position in the modern silver market — the designs change annually, which drives collector demand well beyond what the modest specifications might otherwise justify. The series began in 2016, deliberately mirroring the marketing logic of the South African Krugerrand and the Austrian Philharmoniker: annual design variation as a hedge against simple melt-value competition.
Despite the Somali government imprimatur, these coins are produced and distributed entirely by the Bavarian State Mint in Munich under a licensing arrangement.
