Additional information

Issued under the Marcos administration's currency reform program, this series replaced the older centavo-denominated coinage as the Philippines transitioned to the piso-sentimo system following the Central Bank Act. The shift was partly cosmetic nationalism — Pilipino-language denominations replacing Spanish-derived ones — but also a practical restructuring of the monetary base during a period of sustained GDP growth that made smaller subdivisions increasingly marginal in daily commerce.

Production ran through 1974, the year martial law was already two years entrenched.
