The early 1990s saw the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas quietly reduce the physical size of the 25 sentimo to cut production costs — a minor administrative decision that created the "small type" distinction collectors now use to separate these from the otherwise near-identical earlier issues. The size reduction came during a period of persistent inflation in the Philippines that steadily eroded the coin's purchasing power.
The series ran only four years before the denomination was effectively sidelined in daily commerce. KM#241.2 is the standard catalog reference separating it from KM#241.1, the large type.
