| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central high-relief, partially gilt depiction of the Xing Shi (行什), the mythological spine beast of the Forbidden City, shown seated upon a rectangular plinth and rendered in vivid gold gilding. The figure, displaying leonine features, wings, and a humanoid torso, is set against a deeply recessed black field. To the upper right, a low-relief architectural rendering of a traditional imperial Chinese palatial roofline with decorative ridge figures is visible, while the lower left background presents an engraved view of a Forbidden City gate tower beneath an auspicious full moon and stylised cloud scrolls. The inner border is formed by a decorative stamp-perforation motif. The arc legend 'The Spine Beast of the Forbidden City' curves along the upper periphery, with the Chinese characters '行什' and the romanised transliteration 'XING SHI' inscribed to the right of the central figure. |
