The "Agong XII" designation refers to coins struck during the reign of Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, the 13th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, who took office in December 2001. Malaysian coins traditionally rotate the monarch's effigy with each new Agong, making reign-specific issues useful anchors for dating accumulations of circulating brass. The Nicobar Pigeon, native to offshore island chains including Malaysia's own territorial waters near Langkawi, was already under pressure from habitat loss by the time this coin entered circulation.
KM#95 was superseded relatively quickly as the wildlife series evolved through subsequent issues.
