ORI — Oeang Repoeblik Indonesia — was the currency issued by the revolutionary government during the independence struggle against the Dutch, and the third series (ORI III) appeared in 1947 while large portions of the archipelago remained under Dutch military control. Printing conditions were improvised; the Republican administration had no established security printing infrastructure, and production in Jogjakarta, the de facto revolutionary capital, was handled under genuine wartime constraints.
The 25 Rupiah denomination was among the higher values in the series, which made it a target for Dutch-sponsored counterfeit campaigns aimed at destabilizing Republican finances. Distinguishing genuine examples from period forgeries remains a known authentication concern with this type.
