Beschrijving voorzijde A tall coconut palm tree dominates the left and center of the field, depicted in a detailed engraved style with fronds extending across the upper portion of the token. The tree rises from a sandy shoreline with a coastal seascape rendered in the background. The legend 'KEELING- COCOS Is' appears in two lines to the right of the palm tree in the field, and the date '1968' is inscribed along the lower exergue.

Aanvullende informatie

The Cocos (Keeling) Islands plastic coinage was introduced by the Clunies-Ross family, who administered the atoll as a private fiefdom and maintained a company-store economy in which islanders — predominantly Cocos Malay laborers — were paid in this proprietary currency, redeemable only within the islands. The system effectively trapped wages on-island. Australian authorities eventually dismantled the arrangement in the early 1980s, buying out John Clunies-Ross and integrating the territory fully into the Australian dollar zone in 1984.

The plastic tokens were issued in multiple denominations across several colors; the 25-rupee piece in red sits at the higher end of the series.
