Part of the Bank of Russia's long-running series celebrating Russian cultural institutions, this piece was issued for the 150th anniversary of the Tretyakov Gallery — founded in 1856 when Moscow merchant Pavel Tretyakov began acquiring Russian art with the explicit intention of donating the collection to the city. He did so in 1892, handing over 1,276 paintings and 471 drawings. The bimetallic construction, with a gold insert set into the silver field, was a deliberate technical flourish reserved for the most prestigious issues in the series, not a routine production choice.
