The denomination '25' appears vertically at left and the date '1993 г.' vertically at right, both flanking the eagle. The legend 'БАНК РОССИИ' (Bank of Russia) arcs along the lower periphery, while the fineness indicator 'Pd999' and the weight '31.1' are inscribed in small characters at the lower left and lower right of the eagle respectively. | Aanvullende informatie |
Part of Russia's "First Russian Circumnavigation" palladium series, this coin commemorates the 1803–1806 expedition led by Ivan Krusenstern and Yuri Lisyansky — the first Russian vessels to circumnavigate the globe. The Neva, commanded by Lisyansky, separated from Krusenstern's flagship Nadezhda near Hawaii and completed much of its Pacific leg independently, including a significant intervention in Alaskan waters where Lisyansky's crew assisted the Russian-American Company against Tlingit forces at Sitka in 1804.
The palladium series was struck in limited quantities during the early post-Soviet period, when the Russian mint briefly used domestic palladium reserves for numismatic issues before the program was curtailed.
