| 裏面の説明 | The reverse presents a detailed relief panorama of the Sviyazhsk town-island at center, depicting its characteristic architectural and natural landscape. In the lower left, a period wooden sailing vessel is rendered in fine relief, evoking the island's historical significance as a 16th-century military and trade outpost. The heraldic emblem of Sviyazhsk appears prominently at the upper portion of the design. A pair of decorative ribbons frames the composition along the upper circumference, bearing the Cyrillic inscription 'ОСТРОВ-ГРАД СВИЯЖСК' (Sviyazhsk Town-Island). |

Sviyazhsk is a genuine island in the Volga reservoir, accessible by road only since 2008. Ivan the Terrible used it as a forward staging base during the 1552 siege of Kazan, having prefabricated an entire wooden fortress in Uglich over the winter and floated it downriver for assembly — a logistical feat that genuinely surprised the Kazan Khanate's defenders. The island's subsequent monasteries date from that military episode, not from peaceable ecclesiastical settlement.
The Bank of Russia's architectural and heritage series has issued dozens of these large-format silver pieces; this entry covers the 2022 Sviyazhsk addition at the 25-rouble denomination, the workhorse of that collector program.
