| Reverse description | A finely detailed depiction of Sagittarius, the centaur archer, occupies the central field in bold relief. The mythological figure is shown in dynamic profile facing right, muscular torso fully extended as he draws a taut bow with arrow at full draw, his equine lower body in mid-stride. Star motifs adorn the figure's body and hindquarters, representing the constellation pattern of Sagittarius. To the lower right of the design, the astrological symbol for Sagittarius (♐) is incused in the field. The overall composition is set against a plain, polished field with no additional lettering, allowing the sculptural design to dominate. |

Part of the Bank of Russia's ongoing zodiac series, this piece was issued under the tight production constraints that characterized Russian commemorative coinage in the early 2000s, when the central bank was still rebuilding institutional credibility following the 1998 ruble collapse. Mintages across the zodiac gold issues from this period were kept deliberately low, with distribution channeled primarily through Sberbank and authorized dealers rather than general circulation.
