The Provisional Government of the Pribaikal Region was one of several short-lived anti-Bolshevik administrations that fragmented across Siberia and the Russian Far East following the collapse of Kolchak's White movement in early 1920. Chita, the regional capital, briefly became the center of a buffer state caught between Soviet-controlled Siberia to the west and Japanese-backed forces further east — an awkward political space that produced its own local currency out of pure necessity.
Notes of this emission were circulating in a region where multiple competing currencies were in simultaneous use, and their actual purchasing power fluctuated wildly. The "Provisional Power" designation in the title reflects the administration's own awareness that its authority was temporary.
By late 1920, Soviet consolidation effectively ended the issuer's existence.
