Transnistria — officially unrecognized by any UN member state — issues its own currency through the Transnistrian Republican Bank, a central bank operating entirely outside the international financial system. These commemorative rouble pieces circulate domestically and are accepted at face value within the territory, despite having no legal status beyond its borders. The Tiraspol Botanical Garden, established in 1976, is one of the few scientific institutions in the breakaway republic with genuine regional research credentials.
