25 Roubles North Russia - Chaikovskiy Government

The Northern Government in Arkhangelsk — propped up by British intervention and nominally led by the Socialist Revolutionary Nikolai Chaikovsky — issued this note during one of the more precarious Allied-backed administrations of the Russian Civil War. By 1919, the White position in the north was already militarily untenable; British forces were withdrawing, and the government's authority barely extended beyond Arkhangelsk itself.

Currency issued under these conditions circulated more as a political artifact than a functional medium of exchange. Soldiers and civilians alike understood the British withdrawal made redemption unlikely. Notes from this series survived in better condition than their circulation history might suggest — not from careful handling, but because confidence collapsed so quickly that many were simply never spent.
