The North Caucasian Soviet Socialist Republic was a short-lived Bolshevik entity declared in early 1918 in the turbulent aftermath of the October Revolution, governing — loosely — parts of the Kuban and Terek regions before being overrun by White and foreign forces within months. Its paper currency was issued not from any position of economic stability but as a functional necessity of revolutionary administration, competing on the ground with Provisional Government leftovers, Don Army notes, and various local scrip.
S448 is among the scarcer emissions from this republic, which produced comparatively little paper before collapsing. Notes from this issuer that passed through actual circulation rather than sitting in archive stocks are difficult to distinguish from those that didn't — the region's chaotic 1918–1919 fighting left few reliable paper trails.
