Part of the Bank of Russia's ongoing commemorative circulation series honoring Soviet animated film, this piece marks the 50th anniversary of Yuriy Norshteyn's 1975 short. The film is routinely ranked among the greatest animated works ever produced — a 1984 international poll of animators placed it first globally — and it has carried unusual cultural weight in Russia precisely because Norshteyn spent the following decades on an unfinished follow-up, Overcoat, still incomplete after forty years of work.
