Part of the Bank of Russia's ongoing zodiac series, this piece was issued under the broader commemorative program the CBR formalized in the early 1990s as Russia rebuilt its institutional identity following Soviet dissolution. The zodiac gold issues in this denomination were struck in relatively modest quantities — collectible from inception, with negligible circulation exposure.
