Part of the Russian Federation's ongoing "Regions of the Russian Federation" series, this issue marks Buryatia, the Buddhist republic on the eastern shore of Lake Baikal that was incorporated into Soviet Russia in 1923 after a brief period of contested autonomy following the civil war.
