Transnistria — the narrow strip of territory between the Dnestr River and the Ukrainian border that declared independence from Moldova in 1990 but remains unrecognized by any UN member state — issues coins primarily as collector pieces rather than circulating currency. The Battle of Kursk, fought in July–August 1943, was the largest tank engagement in history and effectively ended Germany's offensive capability on the Eastern Front.
