Beschrijving keerzijde The mirror-finish field of the reverse is framed by three ornamental fragments positioned at the upper rim and flanking sides. A facade fragment of the Marble Palace in Saint Petersburg occupies the upper portion, while a panoramic view of the palace extends across the lower register. Between these two architectural depictions, the Cyrillic inscription «АНТОНИО РИНАЛЬДИ» (ANTONIO RINALDI) is divided by a round medallion bearing a portrait of the architect. Below the inscription, a colorized capital of the Ionic order provides a decorative and historically contextual accent.

Aanvullende informatie

The Antonio Rinaldi Palace at Oranienbaum survived the Second World War entirely intact — the only imperial suburban residence near Leningrad to do so — because German forces never captured the Oranienbaum bridgehead. That accident of military geography left its interiors undamaged while Peterhof and Tsarskoye Selo burned. The Russian series commemorating architectural monuments has used the 169g format repeatedly for major palace subjects, pairing the large silver field with engraved architectural renderings rather than photographic reproduction.
