The Qatar and Dubai Currency Board was a temporary institution by design — created in 1960 after Qatar left the Gulf Rupee zone, and always intended to dissolve once each territory established its own central bank. Dubai joined the arrangement for convenience, not common cause. The Board was wound up in 1973 when both went their separate ways: Qatar launched its own monetary authority, and Dubai absorbed into the newly unified UAE.

Bradbury Wilkinson printed the entire series at New Malden during a period when the firm handled a remarkable share of Gulf and colonial currency work. The 25 Riyal was the highest denomination in this short-lived series, and given the board's limited operational lifespan, surviving examples with strong paper and intact watermarks are considerably harder to find than the lower values.
