| 背面描述 | Conjoined portrait busts of anti-apartheid activists Walter Sisulu and Albertina Sisulu are depicted facing each other in three-quarter profile, set within a large heart-shaped cartouche dominating the central field. Below Walter's portrait, the inscription WALTER SISULU / 1912 - 2008 appears, and beside Albertina's portrait the inscription ALBERTINA SISULU / 1918 - 2011 is engraved. A large stylised letter R overlaps the lower portion of the heart motif, accompanied by a facsimile handwritten quotation in the right field. The legend ROBBEN ISLAND arcs along the upper border, and the initials NVN appear at the base; the purity and denomination inscriptions 1 OZ Au 999.9 and R25 are present in the left field. |

Walter Sisulu spent 26 years imprisoned on Robben Island alongside Nelson Mandela, and was released in 1989 as part of a calculated government move to test public reaction before the larger releases that followed. He and Albertina — herself repeatedly banned, arrested, and held under house arrest during his imprisonment — are among very few couples whose individual political records each warrant serious historical attention on their own terms. This issue commemorates both.
The .9999 fineness places it among South Africa's purest gold coin issues of the modern era, minted the same year Albertina died, at 92.
