Obverse description Central device comprising the Eagle of Saladin displayed facing left, with wings partially spread and talons grasping a scroll inscribed with Arabic lettering. A shield on the eagle's breast is divided into three sections, the central panel bearing two vertical stars, representing the union of Egypt and Syria under the United Arab Republic. The circular legend along the upper periphery reads in Arabic script, within a beaded border.
