Syria's 1947 coinage was struck in Paris just as the country was consolidating independence following the French Mandate's formal end in 1946. The .600 silver standard adopted here was a deliberate step down from the higher fineness used under Mandate-era issues, reflecting both postwar silver prices and the new government's need to manage bullion costs while establishing a distinctly Syrian monetary identity.
