The Yale of Beaufort is one of the ten heraldic beasts drawn from the Tudor royal collection, popularized through the carved stone figures Henry VIII installed at Hampton Court Palace in the 1530s. The Queen's Beasts bullion series, launched by the Royal Mint in 2016, worked through all ten animals across successive annual releases, with the Yale appearing in the 2019 issues. The Yale itself is a largely mythological creature — a spotted, horned quadruped first described in Pliny the Elder — but its specific heraldic role derives from Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry VII and matriarch of the Tudor dynasty.
