Additional information

The White Lion of Mortimer was one of ten heraldic beasts recreated for the Queen's Beasts series, itself drawn from the ten sculpted plaster figures that flanked the entrance to Westminster Abbey during Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953. The original sculptures were the work of James Woodford, and the lion specifically derives from the arms of Roger Mortimer, 1st Earl of March — whose descendant Edward IV carried the badge onto the Yorkist claim to the English throne.

This quarter-ounce denomination was added mid-series as demand for a more accessible gold entry point grew. The 2020 date places it among the final releases before the series concluded.
