Alderney — the smallest of the inhabited Channel Islands and technically a dependency of the British Crown rather than the UK — has issued commemorative coinage through the Royal Mint and various licensed minters since 1989, primarily for the collector market. The Sapphire Jubilee marked Elizabeth II's 65th anniversary on the throne in 2017, a milestone with no historical precedent; no British monarch had previously reigned long enough to reach it.
