The Yale of Beaufort entered the Royal Mint's "Tudor Beasts" series as the ninth release, drawn from the heraldic supporters originally displayed at the funeral of Henry VII in 1509. The Yale — a mythological creature with swiveling horns, attributed to the Beaufort family through Lady Margaret Beaufort, Henry VII's mother — had no prior appearance in the standard "Queen's Beasts" coinage program that preceded this series, making it a genuinely new addition rather than a reprise.
This is among the earliest coins struck posthumously following Elizabeth II's death in September 2022, with the effigy by Jody Clark retained rather than transitioning to Charles III's portrait — a deliberate decision by the Royal Mint for continuity within the Tudor Beasts program.
