Opmerkingen

The Bank of South Sudan's inaugural note series, including this 25 Piaster denomination, was issued on July 18, 2011 — three days before South Sudan's formal independence declaration on July 9 had even fully settled into international recognition. Thomas De La Rue produced the complete series under considerable time pressure; the newly established central bank had barely months between the January 2011 independence referendum result and the legal requirement to have a functioning currency ready for circulation.

The piaster subdivisions saw almost no practical use from the outset, as rampant inflation quickly rendered small denominations worthless in daily trade.
